Dear friend,

We’re inviting you today to become a recurring donor to Scapegoat Garden by setting up an automatic payment of any amount through Paypal here. The company is on a precipice, and having steady, reliable income over the next few months and years will make an enormous difference in fulfilling and advancing our mission. In honor of Scapegoat Garden’s 20th anniversary, will you commit to donating $10, $25, $50, or even $100 per month for one year to support Deborah’s work? And if recurring a donation isn’t feaible for you, we also welcome one-time contributions via Paypal.

Collaboration is at the heart of Scapegoat Garden’s mission, and this spirit of collaboration is a delicate one, requiring that all parties invest in a common goal and experience a return on their investment. For Scapegoat Garden that goal is to arrive at compelling interdisciplinary performance and curatorial projects that stimulate every sense, and arts advocacy that make it all possible. When it works as it should, something magical happens, a certain spark is ignited, and then the real work of stoking that flame begins.

This magic is now manifesting in Scapegoat Garden’s current project, Liturgy|Order|Bridge, an in-process performance installation that invokes the intimacies of care practices, the spectacle and absurdities of religious ritual, and the communal embodiment of black church traditions. The company’s director, Deborah Goffe, is joined in this endeavor by her current core collaborators: Lauren Horn, Abena Koomson-Davis, and Arien Wilkerson. They come to this project with enduring commitments to place, and to putting performance practice to work for a greater good through their harmonious and wildly varied approaches to art making.

Over the years, it’s become clear that Deborah’s devotion to collaboration extends beyond the creative process. With each passing year, we find ourselves more in need of cooperation and support from individuals and organizations outside the studio as we work to grow more rooted in our creative process and our relationship to community. Scapegoat Garden’s mission includes a commitment to deepening our relationship to its birthplace of Hartford, CT and more recent rooting in Western Massachusetts, as well as nurturing an ecosystem in the Connecticut River Valley that can truly support dance for years to come.

Your collaboration as a contributor is an essential component in the continued success of Scapegoat Garden. Recurring payments are easy to set up, and the impact of collective support will help shepherd Scapegoat Garden into the next 20 years of magic.

Thank you!
